My it has been a while...again...

SSDD

well kinda, just been very busy...to busy for blogging anyway...

So, what have i been doing? Some of you will know cos your in the same position as me, preparing and resting inbetween lessons. I think its very difficult to find the time to read other blogs or even do your own blog while your a student teacher. Can't wait to go back to uni mainly cos i love the outdoor learning APD i'm doing, no offence to principles and contexts.

Had my crit today. Done satisfactory. Need to have better preparation. Few more things but i won't bore you with the details. Hope everyone else's is going great.

Got a CDP 4th year class next. JOY!

Haven't started any portfolio stuff yet, well i've gathered lots of information so its available for when i do it in the last week. My lesson planning needs to be improve because it resembles David Muir's desk, in other words 'An organised mess'.

Think i'll go now...wasted enough time...well not wasted but discuss and shared my experiance's with whoever reads this...

...Should be doing work

SSDD

I have lots of work to do...and i guess i should be doing it but first...blogging

Right, the work i have to do...marking the S3 SQA practical assessment on databases...i did that the class so i guess is should be me marking them...but i don't get PAID... got my crit date which is the 20th feb with David...think the kids will be on databases by then...shame i can't do the stand alone lesson on Blogging...i would so get merits from David for it...maybe a Mars bar aswell...or perhaps i should give them a Mars bar...use David's powers against him! [evil giggle]

On the same day i have to start teaching most of my timetabled classes Databases and CDP...ARG! Oh well i know i will pass anyway...roll on salary...which i know isn't much but its better than the £4000 i get a year from student loans...which reminds me...how the hell do they think us students can live on that little...

So maybe other people have more work to do and i'm just complaining cos i have 2 free periods, i mean non-contact periods. Which because this school has a 5 period day the period are 1 hour long. This gives me 2 hours of time to complain about the little amount of work i have to do, unpaid of course.

Right...on to marking the assessments...

Later

PS: I would like to give a shout out to Bryan for his return to fitness and helping my team decimate the opponents. Again his finishing was like watching Shevchenko, his passing as pin point as Gerrard
and his pace...well his pace was not needed because he was always positioned perfectly. You do make your Pro Evo stats come to life...

Sorry if anyone doesn't get that last bit...i do go on a bit...

Simon's comment

COMMENTS

So some guy called Simon decided to be funny and post a comment on my blog about my bad english. He was sarcastic about the kids being in safe hands...don't do that ...i don't find it funny...so i deleted it and i will delete comments like that in the future...strange how he picked up on a few grammer/spelling mistakes but didn't comment on my annoying habbit of using the three dots (...) Perhaps i should comment on his inability to observe?...Link that to a comment like ... "the kids are in safe hands, he will make a good teacher..."

Think i will leave it there. I've made my point. I don't need his approval. er...think that it...yep on to my normal blog...

Its been a while...

So not really SSDD...

Well its has been over a week since I posted anything but I thought I would finally get round to doing it. Its just that I’ve been far to busy to do silly little things like blogging…sorry David but its true…

So back to school last week at School X (cool name right?). The timetable is a bit complicated to say the least, 2-week timetable, 5 period days, over an hour-long period (or as I see it, a hour long non-contact period) and different times for Friday morning period’s…arg!

The observing classes are going great, less observing and more co-op teaching (not the supermarket kind of teaching). Done classes already that went really well, cos the kids are great.

Teaching about 3 or 4 classes databases…boring. The class I took on Friday looked like a bad bunch of kids but were far better than most of the classes I took at my last placement…or could this be the calm before the storm…but it was straight after lunch on a Friday with one period to go. Looking forward to taking the other classes because the kids seem to like me and in one class they called me a ‘legend’, which was nice of them…

The teachers in the department are great and of cause very helpful. When they have given me classes they always ask if its ok with me, if I would like to do it and such like…which you can never say no to anyway but its nice to have it there if for some reason I can’t do it.

Had the first regent meeting on Friday, which meant that I was kind of left alone to my own devices for the week. So I went to the staff room to make some friends, some of which had already been made on the induction day. The last placement school had a very good regent, who organised everything in a lot of detail but I believe that’s because it received a lot of government funding as it was in a recognised deprived. The school here does not get the extra funding however much the teachers and senior management say they need it. This means that a single person cannot be paid to organise the placement so they do it when they have free time whilst doing their normal day job. It is also made more difficult as the head master is off sick so every senior management team member had been bumped up a position on a temp basis so they are doing more work than normal anyway. However the regent has done a fantastic job well beyond what some student teachers have said their regent has done or compared to some of the horror stories I heard from the first placement.

Anyway new week new timetable, slightly different from last week but I’m going down to the tiny staff room for break…

Friday

SSDD

Well I'm not really sure about this lecture... A few controversial issues raised...The kind of issues which one would erm and arh over if a student came up to them to discuss. I know I had a issue with over hearing students talking about drinking. I carefully interrupted them and reminded them that discussing this sort of thing within ear shot of the teacher or any adult. I informed them that they should be aware of the dangers of such things.

The tutorial task was to discuss in groups the kind of skills that should be in the PSE. The groups were asked to place the skills or areas of knowledge onto different posters headed:

1) Essential PSE
2) Desirable PSE
3) peripheral PSE

Most groups tended to place a lot of important issues up on essential, a few on the desirable PSE and even less on the peripheral.

The sheet we were given out which asked us to rate our confidence on dealing with the different issues. My conclusion was that I am 100% confident in discussing the issues with the student(s). I also believe that most teenagers could even discuss the issues with their friends as most of them go through these issues themselves. The students have dealt with most of the issues raised however in different ways and but still have experience on it.

A few people are worried about the discussion of such issues with the pupils. Things like how the pupil takes what you say, legal issues raised if the pupil told someone what you said maybe out of context. I mentioned to the group about if you deal with every situation without emotions, keep on a professional and non personal level. If however the issue can not be resolved at that time directing the student to guidance or someone who could help them.

Our group then discussed the legalization of Heroin...I have strong feelings on this, drugs are illegal and there are consequences to certain choices...However some of the drugs which are legal are coursing the worst violence...Like alcohol...

Thursday

Computing day today...fun fun fun...Just talked about assessment and school experiance...joy

I have DAvid Muir visiting me at my school and i hope its done early in my placement...don't know why but i think its cos i want it out the way...not have it over my head during the placement.

Got to go home early though...joy

Wednesday

SSDD

The morning lecture was about something which I can't remember at the moment...same with the tutorial...

The lecture and tutorial was however filled with people waiting for their marks back on assignment 1. Boy some people get so nervous. When I went to pick up my assignment the queue was huge and the office was one of the most annoying places to navigate. Yet again I find myself complaining, I’m such a grumpy young man...

I passed...!

Yes Mr. Muir, mine was the essay that blew you away...

Anyone who wants a copy can wait till it gets published...

So next was the boring 3 hours of nothing to do...so I had yet another baked potato...god the variety of cuisine at châteaux da le refectory is about as broad as a thin twig which isn't very broad.

After that I amused myself with the wonders of the internet...well someone pointed out to me (namely Mr. Andy McSwan) a funny video of Steven Seagal. So go visit www.kontraband.com and see the top ten TV adverts..they are very funny.

Next in my busy schedule was at 2:00 outdoor learning. The desks were set up differently so I had to go sit with others...my poor group from last week...no more bonding with Team - X.

Anyway wish we could swap the weather around. Swap this days weather for last Wednesdays. So indoor activities for team building this week...should have won it but my group was trying to stay in the rules without cheating...unlike some groups...you know who you are!

It was fun though...all you other APD kids just don't know what you’re missing...

Tuesday's principles

Yeah well I thought that it would probably go the way it did. It was all fun and games until after the tutorial and as expected no one posted a comment after all the other groups had...Oh well guess that was wishful thinking...

I hope that use of blogs helped not only the lesson but also helped out those who need a little help with ICT stuff. Some people liked it. I wasn't so sure about using it on my blog but I thought as it was only a minor lead task then I could get away with just throwing it on. If I was doing the blog as part of a lesson I would defininatelymake up a new one without some of my minor outbursts of alternative english..

Blogging Successfully

YES!

I did it...got the reward i richly deserve...ha ha ha ha ha...[insert evil giggle]...

Hopefully all the hot chicks were impressed with my ablility and i invite them to ask me for help...not just David...i'm younger and not legally married...

Anyway, i'm in the ICT lecture on Fri and getting very annoyed with not only the people leaving the lecture while the guy is talking but also the amount of people who should be here. On the timetable is says that this lecture is for all groups so would anyone like to say why they couldn't be bothered to come?...do you already know what the guy is saying?....doubt it. None of you have an excuse and you all expect to be taken seriously as a teacher...why should we pay attention to what your saying when you don't even turn up...pathetic...

Anyway sorry to those of you who were there and those few who have good reasons for not turning up. I am the Mars bar winning ICT man, Hear me Roar !

(the only reason he's annoyed at people not turning up is he didn't get a grand moment of glory - Andy McSwan)

Thats him there...shield yours eyes ladies cos this man is as shape as they come...and its there so you know who to watch out for when your alone at night walking those dark alleyways...

Sorry Andy but what did you want me to say?...Thats the sexy lovely looking Andy who will sort out all your womanly needs and ICT problems. Well one of those is true anyway.

Well the times lady seemed nervous and that was quick...least we get a free paper.

Its a break now and more people have left...now i am stuck in a moral issue...should i stay or should i go...well i kinda have to stay...David spotted me earlier and i would probably get a mars bar ban for leaving...anyway here i am at the next lecture with Mr Boyd...

A side issue is that i have finally made a connection to who CHris was...in a previous blog day i got a comment from a CHris...which confused me cos i'm chris...but it turns out to be Ewan's Mum...So hi to Mrs McIntosh...sorry for the bad language i use in my blog it won't happen again...til next tume anyway...

Got to go see Ewans gerk photo his Mum put on his blog...

(got to post link later cos i'm asking his Mum for permission)

Got to end it now cos my battery is dying...bye

Well my thursday went fast...day off...now its friday time for more lectures...

God damn it my butt is so numb...at least now its beyond the pain barrier...i know its sore but its so dead i can't feel the pain...

And its not cos i did something last nite that i will regret when i next use the little boys room for a number 2. Sorry for those who are sensitive to those images, i know i should have warned you but i wanted to get you in the place i am...

Anyway...so the guy is talking about assessment. I agree that we shouldn't assess kids with marks out of ten or such...but with comment or peer assessment...however your boss wants annual reports with certain grades or marks and we can't put in the tick box a paragraph of ...they do well but could do with neater writing or more detail...etc...

As with most things its easiler said than done...

What Happened on Wednesday...and Thursday even...

Yeah well...They came and went...

However I will start by finishing my previous post and continuing what happened on Wednesday at the APD...

Well off I went to the lecture while it was raining and cold thinking it wasn't such a good idea to do outdoor learning in a place so unlike the Caribbean...Not to say that Scotland wonderfully hot weather isn't enjoyable for the hour it happens once a year...Normally during exam study...Any way back on track...

So everyone was wet...kinda...And Angus basically said "Yeah its raining...Get over it..." Not a direct quote but still...Anyway...We were split into groups...Front row (the ugly people) ... Middle row( not as ugly..But slightly retarded) and the best group the Back row(also the smartest and strongest and so on...Basically we are the bomb).

So the back row...For the purpose of this blog we are called TEAM - X or Team Extreme or the best team...Anyway you get the point...We are :

Me
Brian
Laura
Lorna
Lynne
Victoria
Shirley
Kevin

Basically we were amazing...We not only did the tasks successfully but there was a grace and elegance about it...Like a dancer dancing at their peck for the last time to save the world...Anyway we did it well...So well we inspired another group...We performed for them successfully...

Well it was a bonding experience and we all loved it...Roll on the next lecture/outing...And mental note...Get better waterproofs...

So think that's it...Oh by the way its not us in the pics but it shows you what I kind mean...
